Praise Sweet Baby Jesus! Reverend Jeremiah here. What is a “Cherubim”? Well, according to Wikipedia, a Cherubim is: “a type of spiritual being mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and cited later on in the Christian biblical canons, usually associated with the presence of God.” Are the angles? I dont know. Apparently they are very strong, and can wield flaming swords.
Genesis 3:24
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Normally, one would get the impression that chubby, naked little angel boys would be peaceful creatures, if not pranksters. But only in the bible are these cute little creatures given license to posses horrible weapons engulfed in flames for the sole purpose of keeping humans out of paradise…these Cherubs sound deadly! I think the original idea of a cherub is a strange looking winged freak of a living being more along the lines of the “Tetramorph”. Feel free to use the search engine on this site, or your favorite online search engine to look up a “Tetramorph” if you wish.
Exodus 25:18
And thou shalt make two cherubims [of] gold, [of] beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.
These priests LOVE gold. Listen to the construction blueprints of the arc of the covenant.
Exodus 25:19
And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: [even] of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
Exodus 25:20
And the cherubims shall stretch forth [their] wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces [shall look] one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.
Exodus 25:22
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which [are] upon the ark of the testimony, of all [things] which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
God will dwell between those little golden cherubs on top of the arc. From there, you can imagine that you are talking to a god. Funny thing though, how can an all powerful, all knowing being dwell only between the cherubs of a finite Arc? To be all knowing you must dwell everywhere. Oh well, what do I know? I am only a mere mortal.
Exodus 26:1
Moreover thou shalt make the tabernacle [with] ten curtains [of] fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: [with] cherubims of cunning work shalt thou make them.
These colors were very expensive to create back then, and were typically used to show wealth and noble blood.
Exodus 36:8
And every wise hearted man among them that wrought the work of the tabernacle made ten curtains [of] fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: [with] cherubims of cunning work made he them.
Moses considers cherubim to be great ornamentation, starting a precedence of tacky knickknacks that will continue for thousands of years. They are even used as the topmost centerpiece for the arc of the covenant.
Numbers 7:89
And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that [was] upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.
So, as far as I know, Moses never actually admits to personally seeing a cherub. But he does admit to hearing a miniature gold seat “talk” to him.
1 Samuel 4:4
So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth [between] the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, [were] there with the ark of the covenant of God.
This verse says that god dwells between the two cherubs on the arc of the covenant…and I always thought that Jehovah dwelt above the solid sky that is called heaven-Deut 26:15
2 Samuel 6:2
And David arose, and went with all the people that [were] with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth [between] the cherubims.
mmmm.kinky! God dwells BETWEEN the two, naked, fat boys with wings.
2 Samuel 22:11
And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.
God is seen riding a flying cherub…That must have been a TERRIFYING sight to see! But, then again, the wind has never had wings either, so its safe to bet that everything in this verse is make-believe.
King Solomon just loves fat, naked, chubby little angel boys …They are all the rage, and he puts them just about everywhere.
1 Kings 6:19
And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
1 Kings 6:20
And the oracle in the forepart [was] twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and [so] covered the altar [which was of] cedar.
A cubit is an ancient unit of linear measure, originally equal to the length of the forearm from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow, or about 17 to 22 inches (43 to 56 centimeters), The typical Hebrew cubit was 18 inches. I’m willing to guess that the cubit in here is a human cubit, as apposed to a cubit for the giant Goliath. But, then again, giants only exist in the vast mythology of the Christian bible.
1 Kings 6:21
So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
Solomon just loves gold, cherubs, and golden cherubs.
1 Kings 6:22
And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that [was] by the oracle he overlaid with gold.
All of this overlaying with gold makes me wonder how a life for the common (i.e. non-priestly) Hebrew was like? Most of the stories in the bible show a great lust from the priests of Jehovah and Jesus for gold, riches, and women.
1 Kings 6:23
And within the oracle he made two cherubims [of] olive tree, [each] ten cubits high.
1 Kings 6:24
And five cubits [was] the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other [were] ten cubits.
1 Kings 6:25
And the other cherub [was] ten cubits: both the cherubims [were] of one measure and one size.
1 Kings 6:26
The height of the one cherub [was] ten cubits, and so [was it] of the other cherub.
1 Kings 6:27
And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the [one] wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
Something tells me that these cherubs are going to be made of gold as well…
1 Kings 6:28
And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.
So much for charity to the poor, or progress for their nation. Gold was the centerpiece for the economy in those days, and to do something like this is akin to the pope wallpapering the Vatican with 100-dollar bills.
1 Kings 6:29
And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.
1 Kings 6:30
And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.
DAMN! Even the temple floor is made of gold!
1 Kings 6:31
And for the entering of the oracle he made doors [of] olive tree: the lintel [and] side posts [were] a fifth part [of the wall].
Solomon is just putting gold everywhere.
1 Kings 6:32
The two doors also [were of] olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid [them] with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.
1 Kings 6:33
So also made he for the door of the temple posts [of] olive tree, a fourth part [of the wall].
1 Kings 6:34
And the two doors [were of] fir tree: the two leaves of the one door [were] folding, and the two leaves of the other door [were] folding.
1 Kings 6:35
And he carved [thereon] cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered [them] with gold fitted upon the carved work.
1 Kings 6:36
And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.
1 Kings 6:37
In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:
Zif is the month of May on our recent calendars. The 12-month Hebrew calendar starts on our April.
1 Kings 6:38
And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which [is] the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.
That chapter was just fabulous! But Solomon doesn’t stop there:
1 Kings 7:29
And on the borders that [were] between the ledges [were] lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges [there was] a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen [were] certain additions made of thin work.
1 Kings 7:36
For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about.
1 Kings 8:6
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy [place, even] under the wings of the cherubims.
1 Kings 8:7
For the cherubims spread forth [their] two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.
I haven’t seen any mention of Solomon actually meeting a real flesh and wing Cherub; it only seems that cherubs are only for ornamental value to him.
2 Kings 19:15
And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest [between] the cherubims, thou art the God, [even] thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.
The Lord Loves being between those two chubby angel boys.
1 Chronicles 13:6
And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, [that is], to Kirjathjearim, which [belonged] to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth [between] the cherubims, whose name is called [on it].
1 Chronicles 28:18
And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that spread out [their wings], and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
2 Chronicles 3:7
He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.
Golden house, gold beams, gold posts, gold walls with golden cherubs engraved on them, gold doors, golden arc of the covenant with golden cherubs on top with a golden “mercy seat” in between them.
2 Chronicles 3:10
And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.
Isaiah 37:16
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest [between] the cherubims, thou [art] the God, [even] thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
The next cherubs are more than just knickknacks;
Ezekiel 10:1
Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
Another mentioning of the Firmament, or solid sky. This time Gods Sapphire throne is being lowered from it on the heads of two strong cherubs.
Ezekiel 10:2
And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, [even] under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter [them] over the city. And he went in in my sight.
Oh no, not those wheels that are supposed to be Biblical UFO’s. I hope that the “coals of fire” from “under the cherub” that God is speaking about here is not another euphemism for male sexual organs.
Ezekiel 10:3
Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.
The cherubs must have been eating Mexican food that day in the inner court!
Ezekiel 10:4
Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, [and stood] over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’S glory.
The almighty God is a speaking cloud! Bow down to the talking cloud! His voice is thunder! Tremble you ignorant cave dwellers.
Ezekiel 10:5
And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard [even] to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh.
Ezekiel 10:6
And it came to pass, [that] when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels.
Ezekiel 10:7
And [one] cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that [was] between the cherubims, and took [thereof], and put [it] into the hands of [him that was] clothed with linen: who took [it], and went out.
Ezekiel 10:8
And there appeared in the cherubims the form of a man’s hand under their wings.
…And what that hand was doing under their wings we will never know!
Ezekiel 10:9
And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels [was] as the colour of a beryl stone.
And they were as the appearance of a wheel between a wheel…and another wheel, and another wheel, and another…
Ezekiel 10:14
And every one had four faces: the first face [was] the face of a cherub, and the second face [was] the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
Hey, wait a minute! Ezekiel 1:10 says the first face was a human face, the second was lion, then an Ox, and then the fourth one was an Eagle.
Ezekiel 10:15
And the cherubims were lifted up. This [is] the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar.
You see, the Creatures were just mythical angel’s…not ancient astronauts. Ezekiel knew what they were all along, and meant for his story to be about Cherubs.
Ezekiel 10:16
And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them.
See, I told you they were not riding inside of the wheels. And that the wheels were not ships of any kind. Just strange symbolisms.
Ezekiel 10:18
Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims.
That verse above is just kooky. I can imagine going to work one day and telling one of my apprentices; “Yeah, I saw the glory of our lord fly away from my home so he could stand over four fat, naked boys with bird wings.. Praish Shweet Baby Jeeeeshush!”
Ezekiel 10:19
And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also [were] beside them, and [every one] stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’S house; and the glory of the God of Israel [was] over them above.
Ezekiel 10:20
This [is] the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they [were] the cherubims.
Cherubim are not living creatures, nor was Ezekiel speaking of ancient astronauts. Ezekiel. Stop making this stuff up.
Ezekiel 11:22
Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel [was] over them above.
Ezekiel 28:14
Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
A Cherub “walking” up and down on the “stones of fire” on the Holy mountain? Is this proof of mythical beings walking on volcanic lava, or Gods burning lust for fat, naked boys with wings… you decide!
Ezekiel 28:16
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Ezekiel 41:18
And [it was] made with cherubims and palm trees, so that a palm tree [was] between a cherub and a cherub; and [every] cherub had two faces;
Ezekiel 41:20
From the ground unto above the door [were] cherubims and palm trees made, and [on] the wall of the temple.
Ezekiel 41:25
And [there were] made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubims and palm trees, like as [were] made upon the walls; and [there were] thick planks upon the face of the porch without.
Hebrews 9:5
And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Ecclesiasticus 49:8
It was Ezekiel who saw the glorious vision, which was shewed him upon the chariot of the cherubims.
Prayer of Azariah 1:32
Blessed art thou that beholdest the depths, and sittest upon the cherubims: and to be praised and exalted above
From what I’ve just seen. Christians must love little naked fat boys very much to talk about them so fondly.
